Thrive Pelvic Health & Wellness

Bowel Health in Newfoundland

Constipation, straining, leakage, or a feeling that you never fully empty. Bowel concerns are hard to talk about and very common. Pelvic floor therapy can help.

01Common Concerns

What's behind bowel symptoms?

The pelvic floor muscles need to contract to keep you continent and relax to let you empty. When that coordination is off, bowel movements can become a struggle. Diet, hydration, daily routines, and stress all play a part too, which is why we look at the whole picture.

Straining can happen when the pelvic floor tightens instead of relaxing during a bowel movement. Positioning, breathing, and learning to relax these muscles can make a real difference, along with attention to fiber, fluids, and routine.

Difficulty holding gas or stool, or rushing to make it in time, can relate to pelvic floor strength, coordination, or sensation. These symptoms deserve care, not embarrassment.

Pain when emptying can come from muscle tension, hemorrhoids, or scar tissue after childbirth. New or severe pain should be evaluated by your doctor, and pelvic floor therapy can address the muscular side.

Hormones, pressure from a growing baby, and birth itself can all affect bowel function. Constipation during pregnancy and changes after delivery are common reasons to seek pelvic floor care.

Stress and emotional health affect digestion and the pelvic floor. Stress management is part of how we approach bowel concerns, alongside exercise and hands-on care.

How pelvic floor therapy helps.

Your evaluation covers your bowel habits, diet, hydration, and sleep, along with how your pelvic floor, core, and breath work together. Treatment may include neuromuscular re-education to coordinate the pelvic floor, toileting position and breathing strategies, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and health management guidance, plus a home program you can use every day.
