01What It Is

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy is hands-on treatment. At Thrive it includes myofascial release, massage, and scar tissue mobilization and management, used to ease muscle tension, improve tissue mobility, and reduce pain in the pelvis, abdomen, hips, and low back.

Hands-on care works best as part of a complete plan. We pair it with therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, and a home program, so the changes you feel in a session carry over into daily life. Internal treatment can be helpful for the pelvic floor muscles, and it is always optional.

02Who It's For

Who it's for.

Manual therapy is one part of a personalized plan, used when it will help you reach your goals.

01

Pelvic or tailbone pain

Tension in the pelvic floor, hips, and low back that contributes to pain.

02

Scar tissue

C-section, perineal, or abdominal surgery scars that feel tight, tender, or numb.

03

Discomfort with intimacy

Pelvic floor muscles that guard or tighten, making intimacy or exams uncomfortable.

03What To Expect

What to expect.

We love to get to know you, what you care about, what you are experiencing, and what your goals are. We respect your time and finances, and tailor each session to your specific needs that day. Your comfort, safety, privacy and dignity are our priority.

01

Assessment

We evaluate muscle tone, tissue mobility, and pain, externally and, only if you choose, internally.

02

Hands-on treatment

Myofascial release, massage, and scar tissue work, adjusted to your comfort in every session.

03

Carryover at home

Exercises and self-care tools help you keep the gains between visits.

Good to know

Your comfort, safety, privacy and dignity are our priority. Internal assessment and treatment are always optional.

In Their Words
Michaela is extremely knowledgeable and caring. She makes me feel so comfortable and at-ease, instilling trust in everything she says. She asks great questions to make sure that education and exercises are tailored to what makes sense for you. She is well-versed across a broad range of topics, and she takes the time to make sure you feel heard and to explain things in detail. I’m so lucky to have worked with her and hope to continue working with her in the future!
